Focus GroupsA focus group is a group interview involving a small number of demographically similar people. Their reactions to specific researcher-posed questions are studied. Focus groups USA are used in online market research and studies of people’s views. The discussions can be supervised or open. They can concern a replacement product or something else. The idea is for the researcher to find out about the participants’ reactions. If group members are representative of a larger population, those reactions can be expected to reflect the views of that larger population. Thus focus groups constitute a search method that researchers organize for the aim of collecting qualitative data, through interactive and directed discussions.

Nationwide Focus GroupsFocus groups typically are conducted face-to-face, but the development of technology has enabled qualitative research to reach online methods. There are two types of online methods synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous techniques allow for researchers to conduct live chats which try to mimic in-person interviews Asynchronous techniques collect participant information through online communication such as forums and email subscribers. Hurdles within asynchronous online focus groups include irregular participation over time and a potential timely study. Within synchronous online focus groups, tests include timing not working for members and lack of receptiveness Online focus group benefits include no transport necessary and ease of access, while online focus group difficulties include lack of technology and minimal technological skill. Advantages to online focus groups provide those to a participant who is geographically far from each another and increase participation by engaging with those who are more satisfied with internet use. Disadvantages of online focus groups include losing associated non-verbal behavior which could factor into imposing qualitative research.
Online Market ResearchOnline Market Research is the study of consumer opinions and occurs because companies throughout the country are interested in learning what ordinary consumers think about their products and services. These companies routinely hire independent market research facilities to determine how consumers perceive topics including current products, upcoming products, products in development, and brand image. To determine how participants actually perceive these products, research facilities often host one of a limited number of common research studies, which include Focus Groups, Surveys, Research Panels, Taste Tests, Mystery Shopping, and Clinical Trials.
